
Many people usually tend to think that musicians are only the individuals who did not do well in school and decided to pursue their passions. However this is not the case for all of them since in recent years we have witnessed musicians going to the point of getting a PHD. In this article, the African Torch highlights some of the most educated Kenyan musicians.
Holy Dave Muthengi.
Holy Dave Muthengi is arguably the most educated musician Kenyan. The gospel musician first came to the limelight after releasing the ‘Niko na Reason’ hit song featuring Ekko Dyda. He would then become a TV Host at Citizen TV where he hosted the Sunday morning show dubbed ‘Bambika.’ Alongside Timeless Noel and Karwira Laura. Holy Dave holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the prestigious United States International University Africa (USIU). He is currently pursuing a PHD at the same institution.
Elani Band.
The Elani band is a famous band comprised of three individuals – Maureen Kunga, Brian Chweya and Wambui Ngugi. Apart from giving us mega hit songs like ‘Koo Koo’ these individuals have seriously chewed books. Maureen Kunga and Brian are law graduates of the prestigious University of Nairobi law school while Wambui holds a Degree in Actuarial Science from the same institution.

Sauti Sol.
Sauti Sol is one of the popular and most successful Kenyan bands who have been in the entertainment scene for over a decade. Polycarp Otieno famously known as Fancy Fingers, who is the guitarist, holds a Degree in Acturial Science from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). Bien Barasa, the bald man, holds a Degree in Journalism and Media Studies from United States International University (USIU). Chimano, the short guy, holds a Journalism degree from the University of Nairobi and lastly Savara, the dreads guy, holds a Degree in Finance and Commerce from Africa Nazarene University.
King Kaka.
King Kaka is a famous Kenyan rapper and musician who has been in the industry for years now. Apart from blessing Kenyans with hit songs such as ‘Ligi soo’ and ‘Wajing Nyinyi’ the artist has a rich educational background. King Kaka attended the Kenya College of Accounts where he graduated with a Degree in Accounting.
Nameless.
Nameless is one of the legendary Kenyan musicians who has been in the entertainment industry for over a decade and is still pushing. Despite him being very good at what he does talent wise, he has also seriously chewed books. He is a well trained and certified architect having graduated with a Degree in Architecture from the prestigious University of Nairobi.
