
In a country like Kenya where the rate of unemployment is relatively high, it is quite ironic when someone tells you that they are leaving their jobs behind to pursue an uncertain and unpromising passion. However, there are some few Kenyans who did just that and the risk surely paid off. In this article, the African Torch compiles a list of Kenyan Celebrities who quit their lucrative career jobs to pursue their passions.
King Kaka.
After clearing his secondary school education, King Kaka joined the Kenya College of Accounts where he graduated with a degree in Accounting. He however decided to put aside his credentials and pursue his passion for music. Though it wasn’t easy at first but he finally got the breakthrough into the industry with his music topping the charts. He is now a celebrated Kenyan rapper with several hit songs and a huge fan base not only in Kenya but the entire East African region.
Polycarp Otieno.
Polycarp Otieno, famously known as Fancy Fingers is a crew member of the famous Sauti Sol band. When he is busy playing the guitar in the crew you wouldn’t know that he holds a Computer Science degree from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). He however chose to pursue his passion in music and together with his friends formed Sauti Sol band which has grown to produce many hit songs and get the attention of not only Africa but the entire world.

Sarah Hassan.
Sarah Hassan is a popular actress who has been in the entertainment scene for years. She first came to the limelight through her acting in the famous Tahidi High Show that aired on Citizen TV where she used the stage name Tanya. She has since appeared in different movies and shows with the most recent one being playing a lead actor role in Zora drama series that aired on Citizen TV. Sarah holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
Nameless.
Nameless is a legendary musician who has been in the entertainment industry for over a decade. He has been able to create a long lasting brand that has stood the taste of time and managed to remain relevant in the entertainment scene over the years. Despite him being a legend in Kenya’s music industry, he is a well-trained Architect having graduated from the prestigious University of Nairobi with a Degree in Architecture.
Elani.
Elani band is a popular music band that comprises of Brian, Wambui and Maureen. The trio have been in the industry for a while now and have blessed Kenyans with some of the best hit songs ever. Despite having tantalizing voices, the three are highly educated individuals. Maureen and Brian graduated with law degrees from the prestigious University of Nairobi while Wambui graduated from the same university with a degree in Actuarial Science.
